American Buffalo

 A weird and wonderful sight

The American Buffalo lives in the Zoo. They’re a species of bison and the most spectacular land mammal in North America. They are recognised, by, among other things, the way they shed their fur (molting). Their winter fur is shed in the spring and it hangs from their body in large pieces.

Giants on the move

Bisons are nomadic and have no permanent territory. Depending on the season and food supply, they often cover large distances. The bison, despite their enormous size, can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h.
