Giraffes have no specific type of sound. But, they are by no means silent. Depending on the situation, they growl, bleat, whistle or cough. However, they communicate with each other mainly in the infra-sound field, that is, in such a low pitch that humans can not hear them.
The Ancient Romans believed giraffes were a cross between a camel and a leopard. Their scientific name is still giraffa camelopardalis. "Giraffe" comes from the arabic word "serafe" and means “lovely".
