Males have horns and a pronounced neck/neck mane. Due to their blue-gray coat, the Nilgau antelope is often referred to as "Biaubock". The smaller, hornless females have a light brown coat.
The females live in herds of up to 20 animals. The males fight during mating season to lead the herd. The rivals kneel before each other. They then ram into each other with their horns, or try to hold their ground in the neck-fight until the loser gives up.
