The Asian Malayan tapir is larger than its American relatives are. Due to the black and white pattern of its body, it camouflages itself perfectly in the undergrowth. His body outline literally dissolves in the penumbra of the forest.

Due to their excellent sense of smell, tapirs can sense their enemies well. As they are good swimmers and divers, they flee to the nearest water if danger threatens. They usually submerge completely and use their trunks as snorkels. Asian Malayan tapirs should even be able to walk on the bottom of the water.
