Common Moorhen

(engl: Common Moorhen)

Common Moorhens nod with their heads and constantly bob up and down with their tails. When in danger they escape by diving underwater. The birds can stay underwater for up to two minutes. In doing so, they occasionally cling to aquatic plants with their bills.

Good reproductive success

Moorhens breed at least twice a year, sometimes nesting broods can occur. The parents have to work together. While one parent is hatching a new brood, the other looks after the offspring of the first brood. The older siblings also help care for the young.
