In the vernacular, the Croaking Ground-Dove is often called a golden-beaked pigeon, which is self-explanatory given its bill colour. The bill is bright yellow at is base but suddenly changes to black at its tip. A slight curvature at the lower beak intensifies the colour transition.
Contrary to the typical "cooing" of most pigeons, Croaking Ground-Dove’s make a slightly more unusual sound. Often described as a croaking "quack", it sounds a lot like a frog. It pays to listen and watch closely.
