The wild small camel species is considered the ancestor of the bred llamas. Guanacos live in family herds of up to 20 animals under the leadership of a leading stallion. Fights are not rare: spitting, biting, jostling or beating with the forelegs are typical fighting actions.

Within a family association, common excrement places are used. The legacies are not distributed everywhere. Guanacos create large piles of excrement, which people can use as fuel when dried.
