In terms of appearance and lifestyle, the Mishmi Takin is a mix of different horned ungulates. This is why they are called "cattle chamois" or "gnu goat". The social takins live in groups of up to 30 animals.
Mishmi Takins live in remote parts of the Himalayan Mountains. With their stocky, short legs and wide hooves, they are sure-footed and can reach heights of up to 4,500m. Their thick, shaggy coat is soaked in oily skin grease and protects them against the damp, cold climate of the high mountains.
