This breed of sheep, originally found in the Pyrenees, is part of a group of fox sheep, which also include, for example, the "Coburg fox".
Their head and legs are a reddish-brown colour. This hardy breed does not need much food.
The last major herd in France was already on its way to the slaughterhouse when it was rescued just in time.
Since 1981, Nuremberg Zoo has housed a group of Rouge du Roussillon, in Gutshof Mittelbüg. They would like to reintroduce this endangered pet breed back to their original homeland.
