Analyzing the scientific presentations and the protocols from the
discussions of the workshop we came to the conclusion that the
outcome was quite a common sense of what generally determines
the welfare of dolphins under human care.
On the following pages we present a first proposal of a scheme
for inspections of dolphinaria. We are well aware that this scheme
can only be a start to develop an objective frame for inspections.
It is meant to serve as a starting point for further discussions and
workshops on animal welfare not only of Cetaceans.
Of course it is not possible to include all aspects of the complex
matter in this first attempt to define tools for inspections.
Therefore all participants of the workshop and everyone interested
in developing animal welfare standards in EU countries are invited
to improve this living document.
We are looking forward to constructive feedback.
