Common Pochard

(engl: Common Pochard)

A water lover

The pochard spends most of its time in the water. As with all divers, their legs are located right at the back of their body. This helps them dive and swim underwater. On the other hand, on land, they look rather awkward.

Single women

Their nest is located near the water, in the dense bank vegetation or on a floating raft in the reeds. Pochards only live together as couples during breeding season. The males guard the clutch of eggs. Meanwhile the females look after the brood by themselves and raise their young.
