Safari through the Tiergarten Nürnberg

The living wild. At the Tiergarten Nürnberg this means you can watch numerable endangered animals during the four seasons of a year. Together with other zoo visitors, you can experience unique events like a "living nativity scene" during the Advent season. For our employees and friends, however, it also means: This is a chance to welcome new life and to say goodbye as well.

From Engineer Goby to Pygmy Goat

Lush green meadows, numerous ponds, little lakes and creeks, an impressing stock of old trees and mighty sandstone formations - all of this belongs to a marvellous nature that spreads out on 63 hectares at the Nuremberg zoo. Here can be seen about 2,700 animals and 270 animal species. For every animal expert - and those who still want become an expert - we have compiled a complete register which contains any information on all species, like origin, habitat, size and weight.

Nuremberg zoo highlights

There is no doubt about it: The Tiergarten Nürnberg is definitely one of the most beautiful and biggest landscape zoos of Europe. It bridges the gap between wildife habitat for waterfowl and fish to deserts, semi-deserts and steppe, in which Grevy´s zebra, Somali wild ass and Goitered gazelle are at home, not to forget a tropic rainforest in the Manatee house. Our Amazonas floodplain-like basin is offering the manatee - the South American see cow is as well the heraldic animal of the "Verein of the Tierfgartenfreunde e.V.", the Nuremberg zoo associaton of friends - a tropical humid climate, 365 days a year.

In the Aqua park, otters, penguins, sea lions and polar bears are splashing around in a spaciously designed water landscape. The dolphinarium was opened in 1971. In 2011, it was enlarged by a dolphin lagoon, the first outdoor installation for dolphins in Germany.
