Female Siberian tigress Sigena, who came to Nuremberg from Hannover on 11 October 2001, aged 17 months, and successfully raised five babies, is dead.
Sigena had suffered from multiple tumors. After treatment and several examinations the veterinarians saw no chance for recovery. Since she had also suffered from a painful injury of her elbow and painkillers had only taken little effect, the tigress was put down on 31 October 2011 in order to spare her any further suffering.
First results of an autopsy has confirmed the tumors that had already been diagnosed by the zoo vets.
